Why? prescription, drug insurance

Ok. Went to Walmart Pharmacy to pick up my wife's Eliquis(google if you must). Here is the conversation "Name?" Carolyn Heaton. "Date of birth? " 1-23-better not finish this "do you want to run this through insurance?" What, what, I never had to do this before. "Its expensive." How much? "$1278.36" WHAT. We have never had to pay that much. "Does she have insurance?" We have been getting prescriptions here for years and yes she has insurance through AARP. "UnitedHealthCare?" I guess. "Let me go talk to someone" A few anxious minutes later. "Well, their system was down but now it went through." How much now? ( by the way, this was a 3 month supply) "$72" $72 $72 $1278.36 vs $72.
Apparently these insurance companies have a lot of power. They can make a profit on a medicine claimed to cost $1278.36 and the customer only pays $72. If you don't have insurance you are excuse the term, SCREWED
