Why? Clarification

CenterRight-CenterLeft
This is a bell curve depiction of the political spectrum.  It has a false symmetry.  It would appear to be balanced, but know that in terms of population numbers, that there are many more people on the left side than the right.  Why, well it is simply a matter of economics.  Rich, ultra rich, powerful people that tend to control companies, kingdoms, countries do not want change. In other words, dominating conservative thinking,  Since they are heavily outnumbered by the less fortunate, they do not like democracy, actually they fear democracy. In America and actually any country the rich have great influence on government. In general, the rich do not like taxes, big government; bureaucracy, public schools etc. What public schools?
Well, you see, the rich send their children to "private schools".  Private schools live on the right side of the political spectrum.  Public schools live on the left side.  The total numbers of private school students compared to public school students is vastly different.  In the end life is a serious game of numbers and power.  The powerful rich are vasty outnumbered.  The current "far right" in America seeks control of the media through acquisition, crying "fake news", and lying.  The "far right" pushed voter suppression and gerrymandering(google it). If every eligible voter voted, the "Far Right" would lose.  In truth the "far right" seeks dictatorship.  They want freedom for themselves, but not freedom for all.

Why? Life's Greatest Moments

Ah, life's greatest moments, marriage, the birth of a child, maybe a graduation, a first real job, a recognition, a remembrance. In any case I must tell a true story of a moment in relation to the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Pratt Skyline School System. Pratt Skyline was founded in 1968 and was a consolidated school consisting of small rural towns surrounding Pratt, Kansas.  Those communities did not want to lose their identities by sending their children to a much larger school system in Pratt. And they kept their identity by creating a rural, consolidated school.
Actually this really is the story of Carolyn Heaton. She became a teacher at Pratt Skyline and taught there for 34 years and most likely the longest career on any teacher in that system.  Remarkably, she served almost all of that time teaching 7th and 8th grade, mainly language arts, with some Kansas History and believe it or not, Sex Education thrown in.
To say that Carolyn was a popular, loved teacher is an understated truth.  I now offer proof.
My wife, Carolyn and I attended the Pratt Skyline 50th Anniversary on April 9, 2018. Carolyn is 78 years old, uses a fancy walker to help her get around and has been retired from the Skyline System since 2002. In the years since retirement she has become hooked on facebook and has acquired 100's of friends, including many, well actually mostly former students. She knows all about them including children, even grandchildren.
We arrived around 5:00pm, the meal and celebration to begin at 6:00pm.
Immediately it began, people coming up to her to talk. I soon realized and underneath it all as I expected, I was merely a shadow. Now know that I taught 38 years in the big city Pratt School System. I was not the enemy, but most certainly a foreigner. Around 5:30 we began to line up for the self served meal. As we moved down a long line people came up to talk to her. smiling, hugging people. Of course they smiled at me, but Carolyn got all the hugs. We moved slowly, finally getting to the serving area and because Carolyn was tired from all the standing and walking she sat for a while, resting in her walker seat.  And as the line passed the smiling, hugging and talking continued. Finally a high school student came up to us to help Carolyn with her food tray and we went through the serving line.
And now we started back to our seats. I can still see our path back, literally 100's of people in an extremely long hallway, all moving toward the serving area. We were going against the flow and really barely moving.  Why, because the smiling, hugging and talking continued. We were barely moving, so finally I told the student aid that she and I would go ahead to our table and Carolyn would get to the table in a while. Well, I waited a bit, then ate my meal finally she worked her way back to the table. She arrived tired, but happy.
Some where around 7:00pm the program began. Some sort of welcome speech. A history of the founding of the Skyline School including the first school board members
And now the moment comes. Former Superintendent A.C.Boland announced he was going to introduce  and acknowledge the original Pratt Skyline Staff. Now I was actually somewhat stunned by the first introduction. "The first original staff member I would like to introduce is assistant reading instructor Carolyn Heaton"  I did not remember that Carolyn had been on the original staff. 7th and 8th grade yes, assistant reading instructor, on original staff, no. But that was only my brief moment. What followed was the moment. Some shouts, more noise, people standing, a bit of a roar, Carolyn struggling back to her feet, waving her arms. A true moment of recognition, a standing ovation.
Now there is a kicker to all this.  Here it is. It was over, the celebration was over, people were leaving, but not all. You see there a line of people, a rather long line of smiling, ready to hug people  All waiting to see and talk to Carolyn. How do I know all this.  Well I was there in the shadow. The light was not bright but a warm, loving light.
And this actually happened. When the last person had left and we were ready to leave I asked Carolyn this question.  "In life there are great moments, was tonight the greatest moment of your life?" And Carolyn said      "yes"

Why? Opinions

Ah opinions they exist everywhere. 'Just because you have the right to an opinion does does not mean you are right'(heaton).  Where do these opinions come from. The most respected opinions are from educated, experienced, trusted people.   But you should know that the Nazis had "educated","experienced " and "trusted" opinions. And of course the consensus is the Nazi opinion was, is wrong. But neo-nazis exist today.
Opinions can be the voice of power.  A voice for good or evil,  Opinions walk into the ballot box and collectively move an idea, a project, a city, a state, a country, a civilization.  Opinions sway dictatorships and democracy's.  The more important question is where do opinions come from.  A probably reasonable opinion is that old people as a group are wiser than young people. These older people have gained wisdom from more exposure to experience.  And the opinions of older, wiser people should be heard and valued.  So the first answer to the source of opinions is experiences gained through living.
A second answer to the source of opinions was seen as NBC news visited North Korea. It seems that at every gathering place for people a gaggle television screens were broadcasting propaganda.  The opinions of the North Koreans are formed by the government.
A third major source of opinions is education.  How and what history is taught in schools, the emphasis and accuracy sway and form opinions. Families educate their children from an early age. Family values and beliefs form for many, lifetime opinions.
Finally, last but not least is the media.  I long for the media of Edward R. Morrow and Walter Cronkite. Actual unbiased reporting with accuracy.  Today people tune in, log into their biased sources. Is there no answer to lack of objectivity in our media?  Somewhere in the media storm is Truth.  The Truth should always be on trial. It needs golden witnesses, in large numbers to testify. For the survival of this nation and perhaps the world we must have the "right opinions" in the right places, the "Power Places"

Why? Immigrant vs Migrant

Historically, long, long ago there were no immigrants only migrants.  The modern definition of immigrant is "the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country".  Ancient humans only migrated, they had to follow the game, the food supply. Small groups, tribes if you will followed their meat supply and as they  depleted that supply they would move on. With farming, came some permanency and the possibility of immigration.  Why even discuss the difference. Well, the rise of terrorism has created a new, almost tsunami like wave after wave of migrants seeking safety, shelter, food. Do they ever want to return to their homes? Probably not if the conditions remain that forced them to flee, but the pull of "home" is a strong almost gravity type force.  And the overall problem today and it is sad to say, though all people today are descendants of immigrants, many do not want the fleeing migrants to become immigrants in their country
Enter the myth of "The Great Melting Pot".  The idea that all immigrants who have come to America over the years have melted together to become not who they were, but now "American".  This is basically a myth. go for example to many small towns in American that have a strong cultural base from, Germany, Sweden, etc or to neighborhoods in cities that are Irish, Italian, Puerto Rican, Chinese on and on.  Of course this American system of non melting works and the culture of America is diverse and to many a great strength.
But and this is a big But, this migration surge has stirred the Far Right thinkers in all countries.
A quick review of the Political Spectrum to explain the Far Right.
From a previous blog
"Spectrum, 'a broad range of conditions or behaviors grouped together and studied under a single title for ease of discussion"(wikipedia). The Political Spectrum is framed by the Far left and Far Right. Actually, it could be said 'framed by violence and dogma'.(me)  On the extreme Far Left, revolution against the Haves by the Have Nots and on the extreme Far Right, total control by the Haves over the Have Nots. Strangely, in between is a spectrum of freedom.  The ultimate revelation of this freedom spectrum is that as you move to the right, freedom is lost.  'I once had a momentary vision of the future and it was totalitarian.'(me)  No freedom, total control by a Tea Party like group. No compromise, only their "truth".  History is full of examples of such dictatorships. They were ended by war and revolution."
So the point is that this modern day migration, possible immigration has stirred the Far right in every country because these people are "have nots"  And possible future citizens and in democracies, voters.  Certainly very, very true in the America vs Mexico situation.  The Far Right in America are against immigration for a simple, underlying reason, they will lose political power.  This is a dangerous time for democracy in all countries that honor it. Note on the Spectrum analysis movement to the Right means "loss of freedom"
